These worksheets are perfect for classroom teachers, relief teachers, principals, specialists, playground duty, reflection room and more. They help guide a conversation about a behaviour incident in a more positive, non-threatening and practical way. Helping the student/s to reflect and think about what led to the incident, what emotions were involved by ALL parties, possible reasons why, how the incident changed the situation and what impact it may have had on others involved (teachers, staff, students). It also prompts discussion and self-thinking about what changes could be made to improve the current situation, rectify it and to prevent it occurring again. Restorative Practice discussions can help bring out the underlying problems that may be leading to recurring undesirable behaviours and incidences. This can enable staff to assist the child/ren and arm them with conflict resolution skills which may help them in the future.
Younger students would need to be explicitly taught how to use this sheet and what each section means. Provide whole class role play and examples of how to fill out. Start with guided discussions and drawings while students are young. As they get older, they may be able to add some words or complete more independently. For upper primary year levels, an alternative sheet is included focusing on written responses in more detail and deeper reflection to be completed independently and/or in discussion with the teacher/staff (e.g. during lunchtime at a reflection room or at a reflection desk if during class time).
It is recommended that teachers/staff are involved in guiding completion of this sheet through discussion with those involved first, then re-visit it after complete. Follow up is also recommended, to remind of the positive strategies that were devised during the process and help action these for ongoing needs.
