FAQ About Incursions

FAQ About Incursions

Do you have questions about our school and kindy incursions?
Here's some frequently asked questions:

What is an incursion? Is it like an excursion?

An educational incursion is when an expert or specialist visits a school, childcare centre, or kindergarten to lead an interactive learning experience. Unlike a traditional excursion, where students leave the school grounds and require bus transport and the majority of a day, an incursion brings the learning to the classroom (saving valuable learning time, organisation and money!). Educational incursions can involve guest speakers, demonstrations, workshops, or, in the case of the butterfly life cycle, even live animals and interactive displays. Our incursions at Teach Fun Oz, are run by qualified, experienced educators. They are engaging, interactive and exciting, while also being educational and support the classroom curriculum.

Where
do you run incursions?
We visit locations throughout Sunshine Coast and Hinterland areas, right down to North Brisbane areas. For other locations outside of this, please enquire and we may be able to assist or refer you to another presenter in your area (additional travel fees may be required depending on your location). Send through a message in our Contact form to request our Incursions Info e-booklet be emailed.

For Ladybug Academy incursions in Sydney, Central Coast or Melbourne areas visit here and let them know you found them through our Sunshine Coast and Brisbane site.

Are your incursions curriculum aligned?

Yes they sure are! Our incursions have been designed to support you and the children. They help cover many outcomes from the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG) and the Australian Curriculum for Primary Schools v9.0. Comment below to request full details in our curriculum e-pack!

How many children per incursion session?

Normally, our incursion class sizes are anywhere between 12 up to 30. Smaller class sizes are recommended for younger children. We also offer a discount for multiple classes booked back-to-back at your location if you have more than 30 children to cater for or different age groups. Message us and we'll send our incursion e-booklet!

What ages do you cater for?

We can cater our incursions to ages 2.5-3 up to primary school age (depending on the type of incursion). For the younger children (2.5-3 years) the incursion is of shorter duration and complexity. Our insect experiences are suitable for ALL ages 0-99+ and our dance fitness classes are suitable for childcare, kindy, school and adults.

How much do incursions cost?

We'd love to send through further details with all costs involved for our incursion programs, please request below and we'll email our Incursions Info e-booklet :)

Do we need to pay a deposit when we book an incursion?

Yes, you'll need to pay $150 + GST per session booked ($165 as a deposit), to secure the presenter for your booking timeslot. This is made at the time of booking and will be deducted from the full incursion cost. The remaining balance will be due at the completion of the incursion for one-off incursions. For 10 week programs, a payment is required after each week.

Are your presenters qualified, insured and have blue cards?

Absolutely! Our presenters are fully trained, insured and have current Working with Children checks. We also have presenters who have been teaching over 23 years and are still registered teachers with QCT.

How long do one-off incursions go for?

One-off incursion sessions are normally approx. 45 minutes to 1 hour duration (see individual listings for each incursion). For toddler groups, this is reduced down to 20-30 minutes depending on their attention span on the day (with a special toddler price). We will also need full access to the presentation area in a clear space with tables and near a powerpoint to set up approximately 30-60 minutes prior and afterwards for pack up.

How do we pay?

An quote or invoice is emailed to you for acceptance and shows bank transfer details. Alternately, you can pay by credit card (the relevant bank charges apply for this option). A minimum deposit payment of $165 (including GST) is due within 10 days, with the remaining balance due within 24 hours from the date of commencement. Alternately, if you wish to make full payment in a single transaction, this can be done at the time the deposit is due.

Do we need to provide anything for incursion day?

We take care of almost everything, however we do require 2 large tables for set up (e.g. tressle table size is great), access to a powerpoint nearby and a space to fit these tables next to each other. Also, note that a projector and pull out screen will be brought along for some sessions, to be set up behind this space. Children will need clear floor space to sit (and sometimes dance too!) as a group. For Dance Fitness sessions, we recommend an undercover area, sports hall or stage area for performances with large clear space for the class to dance. For multiple Kindy and Primary school aged classes, it is easiest if one designated space is made available for set up once and classes brought to that space to avoid extra set up time (additional charges may apply for multiple set-ups and pack-downs).

Can you cater to children with special needs?

Please get in touch with further details and we are happy to do our best to accommodate your specific needs. Our incursions are suitable for special education schools, but may need some adjustments to help suit your situation best.

I'm excited! How can I book in?

Check out our Incursions listings here and add a booking request. If you require multiple bookings or have class sizes of greater than 30 children and require multiple back-to-back shows to cater for this, you can put through each online or email ang@ladybugacademyscb.com with your specific requirements and she will be happy to assist in helping with bookings. Once your requests have been checked against availability, you will receive confirmation and details for the initial deposit payment to secure your timeslots. This is a fee (as part of the overall price) of $150 + GST (total $165 deposit) per incursion and is to be paid within 10 days to secure your booking spots. If the minimum deposit payment (or total invoice payment) isn't paid within this timeframe, your timeslot/s may be offered to other customers. If you need to change your dates or times after securing the booking, please let us know as soon as possible (preferably at least 14 days prior to your booking), so we can try and reschedule for you and try and fill the spot with an alternate booking. Bookings cancelled within 4-14 days prior, will forfeit their deposit and be liable for payment of 50% of the total fee. Cancellation without adequate notice of at least 4 days notice, will forfeit the deposit and may be charged for the full price of session/s booked, payable within 7 days. Please see our full policy under the 'About' menu.
