FAQ About Incursions

Do you have questions about our school and kindy incursions?
Here's some frequently asked questions:

What is an incursion? Is it like an excursion?

An educational incursion is when an expert or specialist visits a school, childcare centre, or kindergarten to lead an interactive learning experience. Unlike a traditional excursion, where students leave the school grounds, an incursion brings the learning to the classroom. Educational incursions can involve guest speakers, demonstrations, workshops, or, in the case of the butterfly life cycle, even live animals and interactive displays. Our incursions at Ladybug Academy Sunshine Coast and North Brisbane, are run by qualified, experienced educators. They are engaging, interactive and exciting, while also being educational and support the classroom curriculum.

Where
do you run incursions?
We visit locations throughout Sunshine Coast and Hinterland areas, right down to North Brisbane areas. For other locations outside of this, please enquire and we may be able to assist or refer you to another presenter in your area (additional travel fees may be required depending on your location). Send through a message in our Contact form to request our Incursions Info e-booklet be emailed.

What incursions do you currently offer?
Ladybug Academy Sunshine Coast and North Brisbane incursions are currently: Reduce Reuse Recycle, Drip Drop Don't Waste a Drop, Wriggly Worms and Creepy Crawlies, Eco Bugs 10 Week Extended Program and we also offer our mesmerising 'Butterfly Garden' 2 Week Experience in your centre or school! Send a message to request an Info e-booklet be emailed. We'll be adding health incursions and cultural arts/diversity incursions to our offerings in 2025. Enquire today!

Do you offer discounts on incursions?
Yes, we sure do! We're happy to offer the following:
Offer 1 > $30 off if booking made before end of January
Offer 2 > $10% off for booking 2 or more shows (can be across centres if you have multiple)
Offer 3 > 40% off the second show on the same day (when it is the same show type, back to back, same day and location)

Are your incursions curriculum aligned?

Yes they sure are! Our incursions have been designed to support you and the children. They help cover many outcomes from the Early Years Framework and the Australian Curriculum for Primary Schools v9.0. Comment below to request full details in our curriculum e-pack!

How many children per incursion session?

Normally, our incursion class sizes are anywhere between 15 up to 30, however we can cater for up to max. 35 children and can run smaller classes too, if required. We also offer a discount for multiple classes booked back-to-back at your location if you have more than 35 children to cater for. Message below and we'll send our incursion e-booklet!

How much do incursions cost?

We'd love to send through further details with all costs involved for our incursion programs, please request below and we'll email our Incursions Info e-booklet :)

Do we need to pay a deposit when we book an incursion?

Yes, you'll need to pay $150 + GST ($165 as a deposit), to secure the presenter for your booking timeslot. This is made at the time of booking and will be deducted from the full incursion cost. The remaining balance will be due at the completion of the incursion for one-off incursions. For 10 week programs, a payment is required after each week.

Are your presenters qualified, insured and have blue cards?

Absolutely! Our presenters are fully trained, insured and have current Working with Children checks. We also have presenters who have been teaching over 20 years and are still registered teachers with QCT.

How long do one-off incursions go for?

One-off incursion sessions are normally 1 hour duration. For toddler groups, this may need to be reduced down to 30 minutes (with a special toddler price). We will also need full access to the presentation area in a clear space with tables and near a powerpoint to set up approximately 30 minutes prior and afterwards for pack up.

How do we pay?

A booking deposit payment is made by adding the 'Incursion booking deposit' items to cart on this website and following payment prompts through our secure checkout (there is a range of payment options there). Alternately, we can send through bank transfer details via email or phone. An invoice is provided to complete full payment after presentation

Do we need to provide anything for incursion day?

We take care of almost everything, however we do require 2 large tables for set up (e.g. tressle table size is great), access to a powerpoint nearby and a space to fit these tables next to each other. Also, note that a projector and screen will be brought along, to be set up behind this space. Children will need clear floor space to sit (and sometimes dance too!) as a group.

Can you cater to children with special needs?

Please get in touch with further details and we are happy to do our best to accommodate your specific needs. Our incursions are suitable for special education schools, but may need some adjustments to help suit your situation best.

I'm excited! How can I book in?

Check out our Incursions listings here and add a booking request to cart to process through to us. You can click on the calendar options that come up to request your booking date. If you require multiple bookings or have class sizes more than 35 children and require multiple back-to-back shows to cater for this, you can put through each online or email ang@ladybugacademy.com with your specific requirements and she will be happy to assist in helping with bookings. Once your requests have been checked against availability, you will receive confirmation and details for the initial deposit payment to secure your timeslots. This is a fee (as part of the overall price) of $150 + GST (total $165 deposit). If you need to change your dates or times after securing the booking, please let us know as soon as possible (preferably at least 7 days prior to your booking), so we can try and reschedule for you and try and fill the spot with an alternate booking. Bookings cancelled without adequate notice of at least 48 hours notice, will forfeit the deposit.
